The Puri Agung Karangasem was built in the XIX century by Anak Agung Gede Jelantik, the first king of Karangasem. The architecture is combination of Balinese, Chinese, and European. Balinese architecture can be seen in the stone carvings, statues, and wayang reliefs on the walls of the building. The influence of Chinese architecture found in the motifs carved on the doors, windows, and other decorations. European influence seen in the shape of the building with its wide verandah named Maskerdam. Apart from the unique combination of its architecture there is unusually high gate reaching 25 meter high, made of red bricks decorated with wayang motifs.
